Travel on an Arriva bus to and from school? If you do then from now onwards you can use your BSmart card to pay for travel the cashless way.
No more checking in the morning to see if you have enough change. Simply top up your card online (or get someone to top it up for you), then hold your card next to the reader on the bus and your ticket will print out. Your ticket will show the transaction and the balance left on the card. It’s a simple as that! You can also use your card to pay for travel at any other time, evenings, weekends and holidays too.
To find out more visit the Arriva page on the sQuid website at www.squidcard.com/arrivabuses.html.
If you have already registered your card with sQuid, you will see the GMPTE (Transit) purse when you log into you account. If you have not already registered your card you will need to do so at www.squidcard.com and top up online before you travel.
If you don’t yet have a BSmart card, you can apply at your local Bolton library or at the One Stop Shop in Bolton Town Hall. You will need to complete an application form, just click the Sign up link to download a form and take it with you, together with proof of your identity / address. If you’re under 16 we’ll need to see proof of age and for your parent / guardian to have signed the form.
This pay as you go bus travel scheme is the first of its type in the UK – and a first for Bolton too – so be amongst the first to give it a go. Remember your BSmart card is 3 cards in one – as you can also use it to pay for leisure activities and join the library too.
Note: You can only pay using your card on Arriva buses at present. On other operators services you will have to continue to pay in cash.
